Dr. Juan Manuel de Faramiñán Gilbert presented his paper on human rights and gender equality on Tuesday afternoon, 25 October. After analysing the state of the issue in the international instruments adopted to date, Dr. Faramiñán emphasised the insufficiency of the results achieved and the need to focus on actions aimed at preventing violence against women and latent inequalities, overcoming the burden of cultural prejudices that hinder effective equality of opportunities, and stressed the role in this regard not only of States and organisations, but also of NGOs and civil society as a whole. The debate on the report and the motion for a resolution will resume on Thursday 26 October.
