Ambassador Yturriaga Barberán Passes Away

On October 30, 2026, José Antonio de Yturriaga Barberán, a member of the IHLADI and one of the most brilliant diplomats and jurists of his generation, passed away in Madrid at the age of 90. Throughout his long career, he served with distinction as Spain’s ambassador to posts of great strategic complexity, including Iraq, the Republic of Ireland, the UN in Vienna, and Russia. His deep commitment to public service was complemented by a prolific academic and literary career; he distinguished himself as a university professor and a leading author on international law and diplomatic chronicles. With his passing, Spain bids farewell to an undisputed leader in foreign relations and a man of vast legal and historical knowledge. R.I.P.
