On 5 October, at the age of 93, Ambassador Miguel Ángel Espeche Gil passed away in Buenos Aires. A prominent member of IHLADI and the Inter-American Juridical Committee, he had a long diplomatic career and worked tirelessly as a professor of international law. In particular, his analysis of the illegality of unilateral increases in foreign debt interest rates and the need for intervention by the ICJ, adopted by the IHLADI and other international institutions and known internationally as the ‘Espeche doctrine,’ was a milestone achievement. His intellectual stature will remain, like his chivalry and bonhomie, in the lasting memory of the members of the IHLADI, an institution to which Ambassador Espeche Gil always showed particular devotion.
