Cristina Aguiar, a member of IHLADI, recognized expert in public international law and constitutional law and one of the first Dominican women to represent the country at the United Nations, passed away on Sunday. At the beginning of 1997, the then President of the Republic, Leonel Fernandez, appointed her as the country’s permanent representative to the United Nations.  In that scenario, she initiated at the UN the campaign that led to the declaration of November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women in honor of the Mirabal Sisters.
